"I was privileged to accompany my husband, a Vietnam Vet, on a recent Honor Flight out of Medford. It was a very emotional journey for both of us. Every Veteran in Oregon should apply to go on an Honor Flight. I greatly appreciate and thank Honor Flight for the opportunity it gave us." - Corinne Spotts

Guardians play a significant role in our program. They are responsible for the care and well-being of veterans throughout the trip. From the moment the veterans are in our hands until we return them to their loved ones, guardians will be asked to treat these heroes as if they are family and ensure that every veteran has a safe, memorable, and rewarding experience.
We will provide training sessions for all guardians prior to participating in one of our trips to ensure they are well-prepared.
All guardians pay their own way. We will book guardian tickets as a group to get the lowest possible airfare. Guardian donations may vary flight to flight based on airfares, but are not due until the guardian is scheduled for a flight.
Financial Responsibilities: All guardians pay a cost to cover their flight, hotel and food. All guardians will have their flight and hotel booked through Honor Flight of Oregon at a group rate in order to receive the lowest possible rate. Cost varies from flight to flight. Previous Guardians have paid between $1,100 and $1,400.
Specific Veteran Request: If a person wishes to fly with a specific veteran, please list the veteran’s name on the top right of the guardian application.
Age Requirements: The minimum age for a guardian is normally 18, but we will consider all guardians on a case-by-case basis.
Due to the age and physical conditions of some of our veterans, we encourage a family member to accompany them. We usually only accept next generation (or more) family members, with a minimum age of 18. Guardians pay their own expenses. Each veteran does not necessarily have to have a personal guardian. We will discuss the veteran’s needs when they are scheduled for their trip and make a determination at that time.
Medically trained individuals, active duty military personnel, and guardians who have previously participated in a flight are given top priority. The applicants physically capable of assisting the veterans are also a top priority.
Yes, we encourage family members to accompany veterans. We usually accept next generation (or more) family members, with a minimum age of 18. Guardians pay their own expenses through a tax deductible donation to Honor Flight of Oregon.
It is your duty to make the most of the Honor Flight experience for the Veteran you are traveling with. This may mean pushing a wheelchair, helping to make connections with other Veterans on the flight and taking photos.
Cost varies depending on the cost of airplane tickets and lodging. A typical Guardian pays between $1,100 and $1,400.
The night before the trip there will be a meeting for Guardians and Veterans that provides information on expectations, roles and responsibilities.
Of course! If the Veteran wishes you to be their Guardian than you may request to be paired with them.
